What do I mean by: Don’t wait till it’s over….

What I’ve notice is that when things are about to end or have finished than you say, I wish I had more time, I wished I did more of, I wished I enjoyed more…

Why wait?

I recently packed all my things to embark on a nomadic lifestyle. I took everything out of Hong Kong a city that I’ve called home for the last 25 years of my life.

I had a peaceful feeling inside me as countdown came into the last month. I actually slowed down and enjoyed the company of a small group of people that mattered to. I didn’t feel I was leaving anything undone behind.

WHY?

I had been living my life in Hong Kong doing the things I wanted to be doing. I tried new activities, even if it was for 1 month only. I reach out to the people I wanted to meet up with. I wandered around the city on my own. I looked up things I hadn’t tried before and I was curious about.

There’s also a mindset

That once things are gone, to accept the new.

Yup that allows you to be present to what is currently here with you, and enjoy it. You’ll live your live in the present instead of always looking back.

Why do you keep looking back?

You’re not heading that way…

Things change, disappear, eras end, and I see people rushing to do it one last time.

There’s nothing wrong with that. Go for it by all means if that’s what you truly want.

What if, comes the “right” time to do it one last time but you can’t because it’s no longer there… what then? You’ll regret until the end of your days? That’s a heavy weight for you mind and spirit to hold until you die.

And my guess: if you do it for one thing, you’re doing it for a lot of things. That’s even more weight, brain power you’re using on it. ouch!

Memento Mori

reminder of the inevitability of death

If you were to die tomorrow, would you be happy with the day you had today? a little bit morbid sure, it’s also a way to live the life you want to live for yourself.

I use it as a reminder to take action, say what I want to say and so I don’t wait until it’s over.

Tip — make it a game

Fun fact — pre-covid for my birthday I was looking for new ways to celebrate it with my friends. on the list was:

  • junk — an outing on a boat in HK
  • catamaran party — same same as a junk but bigger 😉
  • beach bbq
  • tram party followed by hanging out in a park playing glow in the dark frisbee: duct tape glow sticks to a frisbee and you’re sorted
  • brunch at the intercontinental hotel — now gone, that was one of the best brunch and tastiest I’ve done
  • nightclub evening celebrating with my cousin too at Dragon-I
  • escape room
  • and the one I loved celebrated my 30th at a trampoline park and ninja parcour!
